Mr. President, It's All of the Above

By Christopher Chantrill

Even MSNBC reckons that the president had a bad week. The bad-hair week, according to Chuck Todd, included the "tax-fairness issue" over the weekend, the stock market loss on Monday, the rallying round Romney after the Santorum exit, the Rosen flap, and then a local reporter asking the president about jet-set vacations while the America people suffer. The president blamed the "Secret Service and Air Force One" for that. The malfeasance of federal employees and the cost of fuel compel the president to travel.

And now it looks like the establishment commentariat is turning on the Buffett Rule. It's a gimmick, they say.

The Obama campaign problems go beyond the tone-deaf community-organizer politics on the stupid Buffett Rule, the Rosen flap, and the naughty boys at the Secret Service. It's all of the above -- and then some. It's the stupid stimulus, which is turning into a real bust now that all those female schoolteachers are losing their jobs. It's the corrupt green energy swamp, where the latest scandal has green corporate officers loaning themselves the company green. It's the war on Big Oil, just as we are entering a new era of fossil-fuel exploration. It's the death sentence on Big Coal just as coal is getting priced out of the market by fracking natural gas. It's the utter stupidity of ObamaCare when everyone knows it's going to raise health care costs.

How many issues can you get wrong in four years, Mr. President? Are you going for the Guinness Book of Records?

Chuck Todd didn't mention the Trayvon Martin case and the unjust overcharging of accused murderer George Zimmerman. I don't know whose brilliant idea this was, whether the Justice Brothers' or the Obama campaign's, but it contains nothing but land mines for the president. What does it say to the white working class if they can't defend their neighborhoods against teenage hoodies without permission from Reverend Al Sharpton? What does it say to Latinos when it seems that the Democrats will always side with blacks against "white Hispanics"? The president and his people are sending a message to independent voters that they'd better not put a foot wrong on race, or their lives will be ruined like George Zimmerman's.

Here's where I think the Obamis make their blunder. They don't understand that left-wing community-organizer politics is as fake as a $3 bill. The left-wing rent-a-mob tactics, courtesy of Saul Alinsky, work well as media melodramas -- shabby little shockers, each starring activists, the media, the helpless victim, and a hapless local politician. But the president is president of all the people. Did Henry V complain before Harfleur about the stingy London bankers who wouldn't pony up their fair share? Not a bit of it. He rallied his troops for the supreme sacrifice, because that's what leaders do.

Instead of inspiration, all we get is confusion. Read how Fred Barnes parses the president's plan for economic growth:

Obama didn't suggest, much less propose, a single incentive or spur to private investment, yet he insisted "we continue to make investments in growth today." These consist solely of government-funded jobs, such as "putting some of our construction workers back to work" and "helping states to rehire teachers." ... Restoring "huge cuts in state and local government" is "part of the challenge we have in terms of growth."

Mr. President: a word to the wise. That Clinton-era wheeze of cut-and-paste "investment" in "programs" is way past its sell-by date.

We know why the Obamis seem confused. It's because they are confused. They confidently implemented all the programs that liberals have been advocating for decades and sat back waiting for the applause. Instead, they got raspberries. Their liberal ideas are all played out.

The big social programs are failing. They are failing because they violate the Hayek Rule, that government just doesn't have the bandwidth to do complex tasks, and the Thatcher Rule, that eventually socialists "run out of other peoples' money." This is not rocket science. It's not even North Korean rocket science.

Then there are the cunning wedge issues by which liberals inject naked fear into their base, to keep blacks or Hispanics or women or gays on the liberal plantation. The trouble is that the Romney campaign seems ready to neutralize them, if the exemplary execution on the Rosen flap is any indication.

As usual, Dick Cheney had the last word. President Obama "has been an unmitigated disaster for the country," he mildly suggested.

Hey, it's not the president's fault. When he first sat down in the Oval Office on January 20, 2009, he checked "all of the above" on the Democrat Party platform, just as his advisers advised. How was he to know that every single idea was a complete dud?

The 1st article in this is quite stupid because it infers that there is no such thing as "White Hispanics" when anyone who has any level of education is well aware that there are millions of White Hispanics who are the majority in countries such as Uruguay and Argentina where they number 90% of the population.

Just as there are "white hispanics" there are also millions of black hispanics throughout this hemisphere.

I really wanted to take that course, but - like you - I had something going on here, so I wasn't sure I could devote enough time to it. It looks fascinating and very worthwhile.

RobDaHood, my income was down enough that the overpayment of my estimated taxes last year paid my first installment this year.

My son's income was down enough that the 2% less that was taken out for Social Security didn't offset the increase in the cost of gas to get to work each day.

My unemployed tenant's income/benefits (unemployment, Medicaid, food stamps, shelter assistance, etc., plus working under the table) was enough that she is only seven weeks behind on the rent. That's good!

Jer, are you participating in the Constitution 101 class from Hillsdale? If so, I'd be interested in your thoughts about it.

No Nancy I'm not. I wanted to but I have been involved with another project recently which is taking up my spare time so I've put it off for now. I hope to do it later though.

Jer, I was thinking that, too - that I have a problem with liberals' math. But we really must admire their slick math tricks - you know, things like counting "jobs saved or created" or double-counting Medicare "savings" for Obamacare.

Oh believe me I have absolutely no problem calling Obama a turkey too, and the idea that liberals are somehow inherently better at math is absolutely frightening. If this is their strong point then as a group they are truly lost based on the results of the math of their policy prescriptions.

I've rarely used the verb turkey to begin with. But when I did, or when I heard it(possibly directed at me..lol), it was always a verb for a person, not an idea. If someone got an F on a test, you might call that person a turkey, but you wouldn't say that was a turkey test, or paper, or a turkey of an idea. But, it's your blog, and if say you used it to describe a loser idea, rather than a loser who had a bad idea....ok.
.
.
Much ado about nothing I guess. Thanks for the recipe.

#SILENCEISTOXIC: Why isn’t anyone talking about the failure of Obama’s ‘Green Economy?’ “This piece by Andy Sullivan at Reuters is remarkable for how it highlights the monumental gap between President Obama’s promises about how going green will create hundreds of thousands of jobs and begin to transform the economy, and the actual results in the last 3 years. . . . Obama’s promises on green energy in 2008 made him sound modern, forward looking, even cool. But the truth was there for anyone who cared to see it; most of his program – including the $90 billion for green energy in the stim bill – was unrealistic and deceptive. It’s not clear that all that money added a significant amount of renewable electrical generation to the national grid that wouldn’t have been built in the first place, and plenty of evidence that much of it was misdirected (Solyndra and many other loan recipients as well as money for job training gone to waste). For all his promises, Obama’s green plans have utterly failed. The question is: Why isn’t anyone talking about this?”

Re 15

From the Urban Dictionary

turkey
(n) a loser; an uncoordinated, inept, clumsy fool
OR
a tool; a person who is not in with current culture and slang or is just generally uncool.
These slang usages of the word "turkey" were mostly used during the late 60's and 70's by urban-dwelling blacks.IE jive turkey

Although I did not know that this slang usage was a "urban black" thing, I've used it my entire life to describe a loser idea.

Obama's idea's and policies are beyond turkey (losers) they are totally overdone (burnt) If I wanted to be more precise I guess I would put up a picture of a turkey carcass, because his ideas and policies are so old as to be dead and skeletal.

It was not I who bold faced the type on their comment black turkey it was you. BTW having lived in Louisiana the proper term for the way you cook a turkey would be "blacken" not black which has as much to do with the flavoring as with the color. You blacken the meat by cooking in butter over medium high heat. Best prime rib I ever had was "blackened"

Blacken for fish and poultry

Ingredients:

2 teaspoons ground paprika
4 teaspoons dried leaf thyme
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons black pepper
1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper, or to your taste
1 teaspoon dried leaf oregano
3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

lol....tks for the explanation JER.
It's funny how some responded with the thought that immediately thinking black turkey must be a liberal thing. Must be a conservative thing to jump to those defensive conclusions. Though I do lean liberal in most, but not all, things....here I saw a black turkey because it's a food. My wife prepared one once as an extra one Thanksgiving. Wasn't bad, actually juicier than normal...but I prefer the traditional. Anyway, there's a few recipes for black turkey to be found on the net. I don't believe that any of the recipes have disclaimers saying it's a food for liberals only. lol
.
I'm still curious what the burnt or black turkey was meant to represent. A burnt turkey represents President Obama's policies? I don't understand or I'm missing something.

It's a burnt turkey, not black, thought it represents Obama's policies pretty well. Though I guess people who want to make everything about race could see it that way, it was not intended.

"Its yo birthday....We gonna pawty like iz yo birthday!"
Second panel blasts GSA for parties, trips, bonuses

General Services Administration witnesses came under sharp criticism from Congress for a second day on Tuesday, as lawmakers expressed outrage over junkets, bonuses and parties paid for by taxpayers.

Questioning ranged beyond the $823,000 paid for a Las Vegas conference in October 2010, to a culture of the nation's government real estate agency playing fast and loose with taxpayer money.

Members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittee asked about trips to the South Pacific, the Napa Valley wine country and to Las Vegas to plan for the October conference.

Inspector General Brian Miller, whose report on the Las Vegas conference touched off congressional investigations, almost seemed overwhelmed by the scope of wrongdoing.

"Every time we turned over a stone we found 50 more with all kinds of things crawling out," Miller said.

Family members often were taken along, and in an email exchange between GSA regional executive Jeffrey Neely and his wife last November, they wrote of a planned trip turning into a birthday celebration.

The 17-day trip took place last February to Hawaii, Guam and Saipan. Neely - who was placed on administrative leave - wrote his wife: "Rough schedule per our conversation. Guess this'll be your birthday present?"

She responded, "Its yo birthday....We gonna pawty like iz yo birthday!"

GSA officials landed special deals with resorts that got them suites, where parties were held on the taxpayers' dime. There were missing electronic devices such as iPads purchased for prize ceremonies.

Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Calif., who chaired the Transportation subcommittee hearing, summed up his frustration and that of others by telling GSA witnesses the agency suffered from "this culture of fraud, waste, corruption" and possibly cover-ups and inside deals with vendors.

"This certainly is not only a dark day for GSA but a dark day for the U.S. government. We wonder why there is so much distrust in government," he said.

The host of the Las Vegas conference, Neely, invoked his right to remain silent at a hearing Monday and did not appear Tuesday in response to an invitation. His nametag was at the witness table for a time, and then was removed.

Committee members pointed out that Neely had 9 pre-planning trips for the Las Vegas conference and visited Hawaii for 9 days in October 2011 and four days last March.

Miller referred Neely's case to the Justice Department for a criminal investigation, among others. The internal watchdog said he's investigating bribery and kickbacks and already has recommended criminal charges be filed.

Miller said 115 electronic devices purchased for GSA prize ceremonies were missing, and one was traced to a daughter of Neely.

Other questions focused on why officials needed 9 so-called planning trips for the Las Vegas conference.

"In my opinion the pre-planning trips were not justified," Miller said.

Other trips were taken, many by Neely and his wife, including a nine-day trip to Hawaii.

A fired official, testified he didn't know taxpayers would be billed $1,960 for a party in his luxury suite at a Las Vegas resort.

Robert Peck said he had paid for some food out of his own pocket and was surprised when additional food arrived - eventually paid for by taxpayers.

The agency's new leadership has demanded the amount be repaid and Peck said he would do so.

Peck was fired as Public Buildings Commissioner after the inspector general reported some $823,000 was spent at the conference in violation of agency rules. He said he didn't condone the conduct of others, but was let go because improprieties occurred on his watch.

Peck also was asked why he only approved a tepid letter to Neely for his improper travel and allowed him to receive a $9,000 bonus.

He said he acted on information he knew at the time.

Free ride ends for global warming

Global warming is over. It has ended. How do we know this? Television has stopped covering global warming. Climategate killed it. Oh, reporters will not admit that Climategate killed this crackpot theory because then they would have to admit they were wrong. Instead, not with a bang but with a whimper goes global warming and the irrational fear of carbon dioxide.

Sunday Show Coverage Of Climate Change Fell 90% Between 2009 And 2011. Since 2009, climate coverage on the Sunday shows has dropped every year across all networks. The Sunday shows spent over an hour on climate change in 2009, compared to 21 minutes in 2010 and only 9 minutes in 2011.

Fox News Sunday covered climate change the most, for just under an hour, but much of Fox’s coverage promoted the “Climategate” controversy and downplayed the threat of climate change. In fact, at no point did Fox News Sunday explicitly affirm the scientific consensus that human activity is changing the climate.

CBS’ Face the Nation covered climate change the least, for a total of just 4 minutes in 3 years.

The media moved on. Time for the lefties to conjure up some new fear to exploit.
